Happy Birthday August - x3

Well - now that we're in the middle of December I think I should probably post something about August's birthday!

We decided since this year we were leaving for Hawaii on his actual birthday, that we would have a small party early in the week and make his actual birthday DAY special with little gifts, etc.
So here are some pictures of his little birthday earlier in the week of his birthday. Of course, being a 3 year old boy - he is ALL about CARS.......well, yeah regular cars too, but I'm talking LIGHTNING MCQUEEN! So guess what his birthday theme was?? Hey good guess!!! So I slaved over a cake that August kept asking me - "Mom, are you making me a Lightning McQueen cake?" about a hundred times! (Answer each time: "Yes August, I'm making you a Lighting McQueen cake.")

Blowing out candles...

Top view.

Ok.....can you tell I'm just a LEETTLE bit proud of this cake???? Three pictures later, yes of course you can tell~~~~

He got some really neat LM toys and a bedspread with sheets of LM - some cool outfits and a whole lot of fun! It was really exciting doing this birthday for him because he really understood what was going on as opposed to the last two where he was like....um what's all the hubub??

Opening one of many nice presents

Aunty Kelly and Aunty Ginger joined us for the fun - you can tell Grace is like...."What is going on here???"

Later that week we received a really cool package from Grandpa and Grandma Wohlwend! I had been looking for a little backpack with wheels on it - Lighting McQueen of course - and just couldn't find anything!! But Grandma came through - thanks to the internet and a hefty shipping charge we got it on Wednesday and then we left for Hawaii on Friday - perfect timing as I really wanted him to have his own bag for the airplane.

August with his backpack at the airport - it worked out really well.
So then after we got to Hawaii - we had a nice party at Uncle Alan & Aunty Louise's house with August's second cousing Hayley who just turned 2 and is as cute as a button!!! He had a really cool Thomas the Tank Engine cake - and oh my gosh - it was DELICIOUS!!!! Chocolate of course! He got a couple really cute car toys and he was set!!!

Isn't Hayley so cute???? She kept wanting to blow the candles out too!
Then we went to Hilo and of course - had ANOTHER party (3 parties for a 3 year old????? Oh well - we're not setting a trend believe me!!!) We had a really nice time at Scott's uncles restaurant Osaka (which of course has the best Japanese/Korean food on the island!!) and he got a some really neat cars, a cool outfit and money of course!!! And he had a CARS icecream cake which was delicious too - so much fun. Unfortunately Scott forgot to get the camera for the 3rd party - so no pictures - unless we can coerce Chayne into sending us some!!! (HINT HINT Chayne!!! :))
At any rate - August was just loving the Happy Birthdays and kept singing and singing Happy Birthday to whoever he could think of......Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma, Hayley, Grace.....you name them - he'd sing it!!!! Can't believe he's already 3....growing, growing boy. Our first little baby!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUGUST!!!!

i am in jaw-dropping awe of your cakemaking skills. No, seriously - my mouth fell open when i read that you made that cake YOURSELF. Good work, mama, you're amazing! :) And isn't it so nice when they can carry a backpack in the airport? We did that with G going to AZ for Thanksgiving, and it worked so well, we loved it. And he did, too - loved feeling like a big boy. Can't believe he'll be 3 in January...wowee. Happy Belated Birthday to August! xox

That cake is UNBELIEVABLE! Seriously, where did you learn to decorate cakes??? I am so impressed.
And a little jealous, I have been begging Sam for 22 years of marriage to take me to Hawaii...no fair!
