As I've been looking through "blogland" today there are oh so many reminders to "never forget" what this day of days is. The sacrifices that were made, the choices that were made and the promises that were made. How have you spent this day? Maybe in a church service filled with the remembrances of such a short time ago.....the echos of "don't forget" ringing from choruses around you.
And yet, do you really remember what there is to remember? Pastor Foley preached a sermon this morning about September 11 as I'm sure did many pastors. But what he said struck a chord with me. Do not forget there is evil, but in that, remember.......we have the answer. We may not be able to stop the evil that is bound to happen here on this earth, but we CAN give the answer to a hurting world in need.
I personally remember exactly where I was when I received the news about the 1st tower being hit and I specifically remember hearing from someone the instant the second tower was hit. Surreal. But the reality of it all never hit me until I actually SAW the footage of it all. And with horror and dread I watched that footage. Even today, 10 years later, it still makes me catch my breath at the enormity of what actually happened.
I am so thankful that we have days like this to remind us to stop....... stop and say thank you, stop and be grateful for the small things around us. Thankful for family, children, husbands and friends. And even more thankful that God gave people on this earth a calling to be warriors - warriors on the battlefield, on our streets, in our city governments and most importantly behind our pulpits.
Thank you to all of the men and women who sacrificed that day and continue to sacrifice for my safety. Thank you to all the families who lost loved ones that day for the sacrifice you have made through these years.
We WILL never forget.
