For those of you who know us, between the two of us, there was only one living grandparent - Scott's Grandma Yonemori (his mom's mom). The cutest little Japanese lady you've ever seen - probably weighed about 85 pounds at her heaviest!!!! Grandma was 92 this past January and although very healthy - was having some problems with dimentia and weakness. But hey - for 92 - who can ask for more right?
These past few months have been a little bit of a roller coaster for Scott's mom and aunty as Grandma had a few episodes where she just wasn't Grandma and they were concerned about her.
Well, a week ago, Scott received a call that Grandma had a stroke and was in the hospital - that she may not make it much longer. So of course, we started trying to figure out when Scott would have to go back - tomorrow?, next week?, etc. Well, we got another call early Saturday morning that she had passed away and so Scott booked a ticket for he and August to go be with his mom and aunty to help with everything. Scott and August flew out on Sunday morning and have been gone a whole week (read - I am SOOOO ready for them to be home!!!!).
They had a really nice service this past Friday and Scott has had a great time being able to reconnect with all of his family over there. Aunty Kelly flew out a day before Scott did and Scott made a comment that he can't remember the last time he and Kelly were both home at the same time - like it's been maybe 10 or more years! Crazy huh?
Grandma Yonemori was a very special lady - having helped take care of both Scott and Kelly when Thelma needed her - Scott always speaks fondly of his times with his Grandma and Grandpa - how he would spend the weekends with them and she would cook food for him. He really loved his Grandma and will miss her a lot. I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to see her one last time while we visited Hawaii last November - and what's even better is we have a picture with both of the kids, her and Scott. Very thankful for that.

So - here's to you (Great) Grandma Sadako Yonemori.........we love you!
