As I'm sitting here, wishing that I was actually sleeping, but knowing it's just not going to happen today, I thought I would write down a couple of the things that August is doing lately. It seems that every day, there is some new phrase he uses, or some silly comment he says, so since I don't want to forget it, I'm going to jot it here! Sorry - no pictures with this post!
For starters, I'm not sure where or how he picked this up, but he uses phrases we say, but he uses them in context. For example, here is how one conversation went:
Scott: Yeah Kell (his sister), didn't they post your height as 5'9" while playing high school basketball? (as we're all laughing aloud because Kelly is really about 5'7" I think).
Kelly: Yeah probably
August: Oh give me a break!
(If you had been there, you would have absolutely dropped from laughing because he used it exactly in context and at the right spot! Where did he get that????? Who knows!)
Last week, his sayings were as follows:
"Mom, that's crazy"
"Mom, that's weird"
"Mom, that's funny"
"Mom, that's silly" (and mind you, he uses them all in context !?!?!?!?!?)
Yesterday, I just about died. If any of you have hung out with me in the last year or so, you'll know that I use the term "you're fired" a lot, meaning if you say something goofy or you're running late etc., etc., I just give people a bad time by saying "you're fired". So last night I'm getting him ready to get to bed and I dropped something and August goes: "Mom - you're fired!" And then proceeded for the rest of the evening to tell me or his dad that we were fired!
He's gone from saying "heli-hopper" to "heli-chopter", and yesterday as we were playing I told him about a "hot air balloon" and he called it a "heli-air balloon".
He knows the colors green, blue, yellow, orange, pink and sometimes purple. He gets black and brown a little mixed up and he hasn't figured out red. The other day we were driving in the car and he pointed out the large semi in front of us (as he always points out the trucks) but this time he said, "Mom look, GREEN truck" and sure enough - it was a green truck! He saw a shirt in a book and said "mom, YELLOW shirt" and it was.
So this mom is totally blown away on a day to day basis of the things he says and does. It's hard to believe all the things he can say and do and how he's becoming his own independant little person. Of course, I'm having to kick myself as I write this because these last few weeks have been somewhat trying for me because I'm tired and I'm pregnant and he's right at the age where he can do some very frustrating things -not because he's being bad, but because he's a typical 2 year old and that's what 2 year olds do. Anyway - this mom will sign of with the vow that she will make the next 2 weeks a joy as we are all waiting for baby "sister" to come join us!
